Core Launches “Career We Can” Community Partnership Program

Local Non-Profit Aims to Make Any Day – Take Our Children to Work Day

With a mission to strengthen character, build brilliant minds and create brighter futures for our community’s most under-serviced youth, non-profit Core introduces a new workplace partnership program aimed to create up-close, hands-on learning experiences for Southern Nevada’s young people participating in Core, powered by The Rogers Foundation.

CAREER WE CAN invites local businesses to open their organization’s office for a day to host high school students from Core and give the student scholars the opportunity to explore potential career fields, meet industry professionals, and open doors to new possibilities.

“This program is a win-win for companies and for our young people,” said Lindsay Harper, Executive Director of Core. “It is not only an opportunity for our student scholars to gain knowledge and discover new possibilities but also for local businesses and professionals to share their passion and experience with the next generation of workers and leaders.”

First to participate in this innovative program was Aria Resort and Casino. Core participants met executives and toured a variety of departments including finance, hotel operations, food and beverage and facilities. The group enjoyed lunch at The Buffet at Aria.

“We are honored to showcase the Aria campus and more importantly introduce the students to our team of exceptional men and women as part of the Career We Can program,” said Carlos Castro, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Aria. “Supporting the Career We Can program and giving these students a first-hand view into the opportunities the hospitality industry holds will hopefully lead to long and prosperous careers down the road.”

Designed to be flexible, CAREER WE CAN enables businesses to not only pick a date and time but also create their own schedule and plan for implementation. Ideas can range from guided tours, employee panel discussions, job shadowing opportunities, presentations, equipment demonstrations, group projects and more. To make planning a CAREER WE CAN event even easier, Core has created a mini-toolkit with a variety of suggestions to make each CAREER WE CAN event unique and successful.
